unfortunately, money makes the world go round. if you don't have the cash, you won't get too far. well, this happens to be a huge problem for me right now. as a single mother of a nine-year-old girl, it's beginning to get more and more expensive. we have school stuff (photos, fundraisers, field trips). there is athletics (uniform, league fees). and then there's girl scouts. this is where most of my money is being sucked into. although i always thought of girl scouts as a public service group. the troop my daughter is in is constantly asking for money for some trip or project or tshirt or whatever. not just small amounts either. it's $50 bucks for this, $80 bucks for that. they sign her up for things ahead of time and expect me to pay for them. it's absolutely ridiculous. honestly, i'm just going to remove her from the troop. she's not learning about community service or camping or crafting things. she's learning how to travel and spend money on frivolous things. this is not a serious value i want to teach my child to have.

It's harder now, and my daughter is raising her three children alone. (long story) I help her whenever I can, and sometimes when I can't. I wish I could help, but I can sympathize, and I do understand.

And sooner or later, like in a month, your daughter is going to realize how lame scouting is anyway. And if she wants to stay in it through junior high and high school I'd start to worry.
Just my opinion.
