Hmmm

Why does the US government spend billions of dollars a year rebuilding shitty little countries while here in the US lack of funding is closing fire stations and forcing the police do lone patrols?

Why are we paying health care and housing costs for illegal immigrants when we could be putting that money towrd building a bigger and better border patrol to keep them from coming in to begin with?

Why is congress allowed to give themselves a healthy raise every year and yet we can't raise minimum wage or give soldiers a decent increase in pay?

Why don't we get rid of our currnet congressmen/women and start fresh with a whole new government?

As patriotic as I am, I can honestly say this corrupt government is destroying America.

There is a war right here in this country; the War on Poverty has become the War on the Poor. Why do you think nothing was done to evacuate the poor people from New Orleans when Katrina hit? Why do you think our government is so willing to cut social programs for the poor in order to fund our bloated defense budget? Did you know that in 2004, 51% of the US budget went to military spending, while only 7% went to education? You can't run for office unless you have a boatload of money and education, so the people in office really have no idea how poor people live. They're a nuisance to the rich. Notice that not one member of Congress has a son or daughter fighting in the overseas wars this country is so fond of. When they bring back the draft, and they will, because they can't get enough volunteers, whose children do you think will be drafted and used as cannon fodder? It's all about power and money; politics as usual. I'm becoming ashamed to be an American.

Why? Because we are generous people. That's one answer. Another answer is because we are a strategically-thinking people, and we gain particular advantage by engaging ourselves throughout the world (don't bother offering a simple response to this - this is a complex issue).

I'm not 100% sure which of the above 2 possibilities are true, but I am sure of this:

People should stop comparing our external expenditures to what we do locally.

It’s like a kid telling his parent that staying out late should be permissible because his friends are aloud to.

Bottom line is that it is possible that we should spend less abroad, but there is no doubt we should spend less locally.

I agree with the last poster on both comments. I know we are a generous country. I also know that doing business overseas is beneficial to our country.

My point is that rebuilding Iraq only benefits a very small group of Americans. Primarily the wealthy and government officials who in one way or another are associated with the companies who got the contracts to rebuild Iraq or who will be setting up business there. How does spending our taxes to rebuild Iraq benefit the general population? Where could we redirect those funds to help the poverty stricken americans?

Didn't president bush say that Iraq's oil sales would finance the rebuilding of thier country?

Take a look at the website for Citizens against government waste. For those of you who don't know how much the government tries to pass off as legitimate spending you'll be surprised.

We have enough problems here in the US. I know we can't fix them all but I think we should try just a little harder given that it's our tax money that the government is wasting.

rebuilding iraq is good for iraqi's obviously. I know that America should not have to run around rebuilding countries, but someone has to. If America was crippled, would u want foreigners to ignore you?

I believe all countries should help each other in times of trouble, we are all people, but America needs to sort itself out first before it can help others.

Do you delusional people really think that USA is a "generous country"? I'm shocked at your ignorance. America is one of the most selfish countries in the world. It is invading - NOT helping - all these countries. There are some bloody genuine reasons why people all over the world hate us. It's because we are arrogant bullies. And that's not the worst of it - we are IGNORANT & ARROGANT. A deadly combination.

I hate the Government. I can't believe they let Bush back another term. I know it's been a while since then, but I'm still blow away by this bullshit.

This obviously shows what money can get you. I hate him and honestly wish someone would assasinate him or something. He's a money hungry douche bag and he should rot in fucking hell. I hope each one of this family members gets killed by radiation poison and he has to watch each of them die slowly, all beyond his control!! THEN, maybe THEN will he feel the reprocussions of his actions. Fuck him and anyone who voted for him originally. Fuck the souther, baptist, conservative, republicans! And most of all, fuck you if you disagree!

Really wanted to say that but I can't.
Proxie tunnel and anonyblog makes it possible :D
