i think i love him, but i don't know what love is. so i don't know if i'm really ridiculously head over heels for this guy or just telling myself i feel more than i do.

There are physical symptoms of love, and you can recognize them. If you can think of being with someone else and not feel sick, then it's not love. If you're not sure, then it's not love.
But that's not to say that real love is a good thing. More often than not it'll end up hurting you more than you ever imagined. When you open yourself up enough to feel that way for somebody, you put yourself at a huge disadvantage.
