The problem with the global warming debate is a matter of record keeping. The earths last ice age was over one hundred million years ago. Obviously there are no written records from that period. We are guessing when we talk about global warming and really reaching at straws when we attempt to point the finger of blame. Mankind does not predate mother earth. Most scientists agree that global warming will actually cool the world by dumping billions of gallons of fresh water into the earth’s oceans and lessening the salinity. This fresh water will come from the ice of the earth’s major glaciers and the frozen artic sea which acts as a plug and holds the glacial ice in place. The frozen artic sea is rapidly losing its volume and density of ice. When this plug disappears, the rapidly melting glacial ice will disperse into the ocean, cool the water temperatures and slow the oceans currents. This in turn will substantially lessen evaporation and further cool the oceans. This of course is all theory, much like the theory that man is influencing the environment in a negative manner. Truthfully, the Mount Saint Helens blast seriously damaged the earth’s climate more so than all of the combined damage from automobiles since the automobiles inception. I for one cannot say that man has caused us to spiral into global warming. I can say that man has an impact on our environment. However, man’s over all effect is minimal as compared to major potential catastrophes like super volcano eruptions, huge tsunami’s, and a millennium meteorite storm.

Even though the last ice age was millions of years ago the earth has experienced many glacial, mini ice ages, and non-glacial periods, global warm ups, if you will. These can be measured in tens of thousands of years. The earth is definably in a non-glacial period. Humans should not be so presumptuous as to think that they have such control over the environment. Global events such as volcanic activity and earthquakes have had more of an impact on the planet earth than man will ever have. Whatever the consequences of global warming are humans will have to learn to adapt to the changing environment.

It depends on how you use the term. I am sure the global warming that you refer to is the media generated idea is global warming caused by human impact alone. This is not "real" global warming, this is the media using a global event to sell commercial advertisement. Global warming is as real as it has been for hundreds of millions of years. Long before greedy humans could take advantage of this natural event as a source of income.

Moreover, when one speaks or writes about global warming one must be specific and use facts to validate their theory. You stated a complicated hypothesis in one or two sentences. The educated Anonyblog reader needs more information to get their attention.

I was using the term in the sense of global warming warming being a fact. Sheesh.

So let me see if I understand, you are stating a fact and this fact can be validated from watching the "news" instead of spending so much time on Anonyblog. This is what I can gather from your comments.

I do not believe everything I hear and see on the "news". I need a little more than Katy and Brian to go on. Sorry, the "news" simply does not validate facts for me.

What is your point, Vapor? Your own post and comments back up the idea that global warming is a reality, and that it has happened before, and will happen again. So why am I not permitted to say that global warming is real? News reports and scientific articles, along with textbooks,back up exactly what you are saying, yet you've jumped on me twice now for agreeing. I might add that you appear to be spending more time than I am on Anonyblog, and no, I don't get all of my facts and opinions fron the evening news.

I just don't understand why you can explain the planet's cyclical warming and cooling, but if I say the planet is in a warming phase, you jump all over me. And, sorry, but there can be little doubt that humans are hurrying this warming phase along. Even if you don't agree that humans are part of the equation this time around, you do agree that the planet is warming---so, please stop jumping on me.

I never disagreed with you. I only questioned the reasoning and what context of your highly controversial statement that global warming has been validated. My concern is global warming has been validated for all of the wrong reasons. Scientists have known about global warming for some time. Only recently the media has created this hysteria we are experiencing concerning this issue.

Furthermore, I might add, you are more than welcome to say anything that you want. The point is to be up to date and well educated about the subject that you are discussing. If not be prepared to be taken to school. You see, you did not say that the earth is in a warming phase. As I said in an earlier comment you stated a complicated hypothesis in one or two sentences with no data to back them up. Not until now have you chosen to use a more educated approach to explain your statement. And I will say this again, human impact on the planet if far less over time compared to global events such as asteroid/meteor collision, earthquake and volcanic activity. I do agree that the planet is warming; so what? It has happened before and will happen again.

In closing I will say that I am not jumping on you but only trying to get the facts correct.

Dear Global Warming theorists.

Why is it that I know that you do not have degrees in mathematics, climatology or meteorology? Do you actually believe that all of the world's climatologists are in conspiracy to create new industries? The media has been downplaying global warming for decades. It has only been the widespread melting, catastrophic hurricanes and such that has resulted in more media coverage.

When you fly in a jet aircraft, watch TV or do anything else with technology, you trust the scientific method. Do you really believe that the climatologists are so stupid that they have not thought about the kinds of arguments Vapor made?

Your jumping to conclusions about cause and effect without any in depth knowledge, or scientific credentials.
Unless you happen to a have Ph.D., know advanced mathematics, and fully understand climatology, I suggest you leave the debate up the geniuses that are studying it. I strongly advise you to trust the experts.
We don't need any crackpot theories to explain why the ice caps and world's glaciers are receeding. We need credentialed genius scientists to figure things out. Trust them!

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the earth has warmed up and cooled off many times in its history. I do not believe that the worlds climatologists are conspiring against the human race but many greedy people are trying to create new industries based on the fear that has been created by the media.
I ask you; Was "downplaying" global warming, as you call it, a conspiracy? And what exactly were the effects of Mt. St. Helen's, and other recent volcanic activity?

I'm surprised at the heated (no pun intended) discussion this subject has generated. You all act as though this is a personal issue, the way you're arguing about it. I don't think that any of us have Ph.D.'s, or are experts on climatology.
