WHY????

Why is the word "forty" spelled as so??? Shouldn't it be spelled "fourty"???? It makes me so angry and confused because I am always spelling it wrong and Im not really sure which way to write it. It's like ever since I learned Spanish I forget how to write in English sometimes. Grr...

You seem to be an imbicile. The word is forty in english. If it is that hard to assimilate while thinking in spanish, do not think in spanish. This is rocket science, yes?

Did you really mean to say assimilate? I'm curious as to what you really think I am like. An imbicile. Ha. Maybe I am!

Assimilate. I guess you can make that word fit there. This is rocket science.

You know what I have heard? They say you don't really have a full grasp on your mother language until you learn another. I have found that to be so true. I really do understand English in a different light now that I have something to compare it to. It's weird, you have to try it to understand. It's just when you come across these "exceptions" that anyone can have a bit of trouble with. It's a bit impertinent to consider every person who makes a few spelling mistakes (or questions the spelling of a word) an imbicile.

Four. Forty. The inconsistency drives me nuts. Cuatro. Cuarenta. That makes perfect sense to me.

Am I really that far off my rocker?

Yeah, you are. If it were like that in Spanish it would be Cuatroenta or some other easier-to-remember line. Plus, who the hell cares? Spell it "fourty" if you want, nobody really cares that much about it unless they're grammar Hitlers.
