What do you guys think???

I was just wondering how the anonyblog community views the death penalty??? Personally, I think we don't use it nearly enough. Why should somebody who has committed a heinous crime get to sit in an air conditioned/heated prison, eat food, or breathe air on our dime??? I also think that everyone who doesn't have a extensive or violent crime should own and know how to operate a gun. I don't think there would be nearly as many thefts if the person in question KNEW without a doubt that the person inside had a gun and knew how to use it......

People like Hitler, the Taliban, they also highly supported the use of the death penalty.

Hitler is the OP's father, coincidentally.

Liberal as I am, I am in favor of the death penalty, especially for anyone who rapes, molests, beats or otherwise harms a child.

The more extreme someone is, the more they've got to hide, and the more hypocritical they usually are. So those who support the death penalty / mandatory life for all child molesters and rapists probably either:

A) Are child molesters or rapists themselves.

B) Have turned the other way and didn't report it when they became aware of a family member/friend, etc., who is molesting children or is a rapist.

C) Have physically abused a child or physically abused a woman.

Usually its "B", but the others happen too. Just read an article the other day about a confessed child abuser who says he doesn't understand why its wrong for a 30 year old to bang 10 year old boys, but says he would literally kill anyone who had sex with his female kids. He is a typical death penalty supporter, really twisted and full of crap.

Of course the other extreme, ridiculously light sentences for adults who prey on little kids, is also twisted.

Sorry, but your "probably" list left out "D: None of the above." What a ridiculous comment. I'm not a child molester or rapist; I've never "turned the other way;" and I have never physically abused anyone.

I happen to believe that child molesters, rapists and abusers are twisted individuals; they're sick and if let back out on the street will do it again. I see no reason why they should be permitted to live, especially since our jails provide so many amenities that many people who are law-abiding citizens simply can't afford. Why should our tax dollars go toward providing child molesters/rapists/abusers with shelter, food, climate control, gyms and college degrees?

I agree with the OP. We don't use the death penalty nearly enough. I'm a liberal, but I'm not a bleeding heart liberal.

we should not have the right to kill anyone at all. do you really think people actually choose to murder, molest and rape? i don't want to turn this into a 'free will problem' issue but even the most atrocious of criminals has an important degree of causal explanation. besides, we all know the legal system is not perfect, how many innocents have died?

Age of consent laws often lump an 18 year old who had consenting sex with a 15 year old girlfriend in the same legal category as pedophiles and rapists. More reason to oppose the absurdity of the poster who claims to be "a liberal" in favor of the death penalty. Of course there are also the consensual cases where she lies about her age/has a fake ID, which is not always a defense in all states. Again, those who experience these scams are lumped in the same legal category as child abusers and rapists. And I doubt that the liberal in favor of the death penalty would report a close loved one for fondling a child if he/she knew the sentence was mandatory death or life in prison, whereas he/she may report that abuser otherwise. More reason to oppose the death penalty / mandatory life absurdity.

Generally, about the only justification for life in prison is murder or attempted murder. The other justifications might possibly include being convicted MULTIPLE times (seperate time periods) of crimes involving threatening the lives of victims (such as armed robbery). Other justifications can include intentionally causing such severe physical injury that the victim becomes a vegetable/retarded, stuck in a wheelchair for life, blind/deaf, severely mutilated/disfigured, etc., or maybe child rape that involves very brutal and severe injuries to a small child or involves kidnapping. Murder and these extreme cases are about the only possible justifications for life in prison. And with the possibility of wrongful conviction, the death penalty is not a good idea.

Good Lord, you're a bunch of bleeding hearts.

I'll bet that the commenter who said "do you really think people actually choose to murder, molest and rape?" would probably turn around and claim that homosexuality is a choice!

Well, a person is nothing but Taliban if that person believes the 18 year old w/the 15 year old consensual example belongs in the same category as child molesters.

Posted by: at July 2, 2008 2:16 PM

Of course, LC, your example is not child molestation. With the media constantly barraging us with sexually suggestive material, it's no surprise when 13 year olds are ready, willing and able to have sex. But what about the sexual assault of 10 year olds, or even younger children? Nost definitely, that is inexcusable.

I think anybody anywhere that fucks over someone else, should get the death penalty. I need the work!

I agree. An armed public is a very good deterrent to crime. If a perp sees a sign on one house that says, "Protected by Smith and Wesson" (or fac similie) and another house that has a sign that says protected by Brinks (or fac similie) and another house that has no signage, which one(s) are they most likely to try? I know I'd be leary of the S&W house. Most baddies don't want armed confrontation. Legislators hate the thought of an armed public. God knows, like the rest of us, that the legal system is not about justice. The cops arrive AFTER any incident to pick up the pieces.
Naysayers are most often people who have never been a victim. Being a victim changes ones perspective pretty rapidly.
So yeah, I'm all for being armed. Concealed carry, the whole shebang.
This ain't paradise.

some of you are absolutely retarted!!!!
only murder and attempted murder should be punishable by death...
obviously you have never been raped or molested, or had a child who was, or even were close to anyone who was.rape and molestation can and normally does change your life forever!especially if it happens to your child... imagine the guilt associated with it, how could i let that happen, how could i not know, can i ever trust ANYONE around my children again...i think anyone commiting debilitating crimes toward shildren deserve to have death (although i am sure they would sometimes rather be dead because of what they may experience in prison) all too often they are released and offend again.. there are even organizations who help house and employ offenders in mobile home parks and such. i dont think anyone who commits this kind of crime would ever change. and what's with the statute of limitations?...that's crap too!!!
